Class of 2023 Player of the Year Candidates

It’s an exciting time of the year because basketball is here. In about another week or so all classifications will have teams playing games. This is a fun time of the year as everyone likes to discuss and predict how teams will do, players that are looking to have a big year, and who could even be player of the year. The state of Arkansas only selects one female player of the year, but let’s have a little fun and say a player of the year is selected for the class of 2023. You’ll be able to read about the class of 2024 candidates soon. For now, let’s checkout 6 players that could be this year’s player of the year.

Chloe Clardy | Guard | 5’9| Conway High School | 2023

Chloe is the best player in the state. There’s no denying that. The Stanford commit is currently ranked #39 in the nation according to ESPN and she is the obvious favorite to repeat as the state’s top high school female prospect. After a shocking upset last year in the state playoffs, Chloe is looking to lead her Conway team to the elusive state title. If she produces anywhere close to the numbers she put up last year she will have a very good chance of being back-to-back player of the year recipient.

Jenna Lawrence | Forward | 6’3 | Farmington High School | 2023

Jenna is a player that is nipping at the heels of Chloe Clardy . She is ranked #61 according to ESPN and is a 4 star rated prospect. She has received several individual accolades, but can she take the crown as the state’s top player from Chloe? Jenna has the potential to have a big year as she looks to lead her team back to the state championship game. If she can lead her team to the state championship and put up some good numbers there’s a chance she could be named the state’s player of the year.

Madison Cartwright | Wing | 5’10 | Greenwood High School | 2023

When you’re returning from a state championship victory a target will be on your back. The great players will welcome the target and still go out and perform well despite being the oppositions main focus on the scouting report. Madison is in a good position to prove to the state that her name should be mentioned with some of the best players in the state. With teams like Conway, Fayetteville, LR Central, North Little Rock, LR Christian Academy, and Vilonia on the schedule, Madison has a great chance to go out put together some good games on a individual level to prove her worth. Another state title will also help her case.

Savannah Scott | Post | 6’5 | Conway High School | 2023

Teammate of Chloe Clardy , Savannah Scott should also be mentioned as a player that could be a player of the year candidate. Standing at 6’5, Savannah can easily dominate the paint with her rebounding, shot blocking, and ability to score from the low block. The Auburn commit could be the deciding factor in Conway’s ability to win a state title. With this being her senior year, Savannah could easily put up big numbers and average a double-double in points and rebounds.

Maddi Holt | Guard | 5’7 | Bergman High School | 2023

Maddi put on a show last year during the state championship game. She’s expected to go play for Harding University next year, but the girl has big time game. She’s a long shot at winning player of the year, but she has to be mentioned because she’s going to put up good numbers and her team is looking to win another state championship. If she can continue to dominate and her team is successful, then she should be mentioned with other great players in the state.

Jianna Morris | Guard | 5’7 | Sylvan Hills | 2023

Jianna is one of the best guards in the state. The Louisiana Tech commit could surprise everyone and be the state player of the year. It’s a tall task, but if this senior year go well for her then her name should be mentioned. If Jianna play at a high level for her team and lead them deep into the playoffs then there could be a chance. At the end of the year Jianna name could be mentioned as a candidate for player of the year.
